A terrifying highway smash between a massive semi trailer truck and a small car has been captured on dashcam video, leaving social media users in shock.
The footage captured on the New England Highway at Tarro, near Newcastle, shows an 18-wheeler swiping the rear of a hatchback as it changes lanes.
The impact causes the small car to crash into a barrier and catapult into the air spinning upside down before landing back on its wheels.
Commenters on the Facebook page Dash Cam Owners Australia were outraged the driver of the truck did not stop.
The video taken on February 12 shows the offending driver continuing to make his way down the highway, seemingly unconcerned about the horrific crash.
But some leapt to the defence of the truck driver claiming he would not have seen the other vehicle when changing lanes.
‘He wouldn’t have felt a thing,’ one person commented.
Another said: ‘It’s pretty hard to see the car where it is in a truck. The driver wouldn’t even know that he bumped the car and unless he was looking in the right mirror wouldn’t have seen it bouncing around on the barrier.’
But others strongly disagreed and called the truck driver ‘a shocker’.
‘The truck crossed a broken line, failed to avoid a collision, demonstrated undue care and attention, failed to stop at the scene, failed to render assistance, and then didn’t keep left,’ one person wrote.

‘How big a f**kwit are you to even try to defend the truck driver?’ Said another.
Another said: ‘I can understand the truck driver not seeing the car on the left but it spun around in front of him… there is no way he can miss that,’ one person wrote.
A third person commented: ‘That would be terrifying. I have often sided with the truckies as they are “professional drivers”, but this bloke certainly is not, he’s a shocker.’
Daily Mail Australia have contacted New South Wales Police for comment.
It is not yet known if anyone has been charged or if the passengers in the small car were injured in the collision.
