Hoteliers form block against tax increase in Quintana Roo

Cancun, QR. The Association of Hotels and Tourist Services of the Center and South of Quintana Roo and the Civil Associations and Companies of the Tourism Sector of the North of the State united to oppose the tax increases proposed by the State Executive Power.

“We believe that this initiative will have a negative impact on the productive sector in general, with the increase in the Payroll Tax, and in double entry to the hotel sector, with the increase in the Lodging Tax, since the economy in the South Zone of Quintana Roo , especially in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco, has not had a significant increase in the last 10 years,” said Bertha Medina, president of the Cancun hoteliers.

“We are sure that increasing the rate due to the increase in taxes and the creation of new taxes as rights will make us less competitive compared to other tourist destinations whose cities show constant growth and investment, thanks to incentives from government orders and the creation of attractive tourist products and services for visitors”, he added.

“We know that the issue must be analyzed and discussed by the Legislative Power, and that it is in the deputies who are responsible for both the representation of us as citizens, and the authorization of the budget package for the state of Quintana Roo for 2023, so that we will insist with the state authorities on the negative impact that this increase in the tax burden would have on job creation, investment, and the economic development of our state,” he added.
