Beirut- Doing schoolwork is one of the arduous tasks facing students, especially at advanced educational levels, as it requires a deep understanding of the subject matter and careful follow-up by parents.
It seems that the emergence of artificial intelligence – as a promising technology – can help students solve their schoolwork, as artificial intelligence can analyze questions and provide solutions, in addition to providing a simplified explanation of difficult concepts.
Experts confirm that the new developments allow the production of texts, images, and various contents, including helping children complete their schoolwork, by taking a picture of a mathematical problem that the program solves, along with writing the steps to teach the student how to solve something similar.
Enhancing students’ efficiency
Technology and applications specialist Maxim Taha says that artificial intelligence tools work to “enhance students’ efficiency in studying and solving assignments. They are useful in supplementing routine tasks such as: editing, grammar checking, and formatting, all of which facilitates rapid learning.”
He explained to Al Jazeera Net that “GBT Chat”, for example, works as an immediate assistant and facilitates understanding terminology, answering complex questions, and solving problems easily.
For difficult inquiries, Taha advises using “GPT Chat 4,” as “previous versions may contain inaccurate information.”
It is also possible to ask different questions, and provide answers regardless of the topic, whether the questions are related to mathematics, history, science, geography, or any other topic, “GBT Chat” tries to provide accurate and precise information.
What does artificial intelligence offer students?
According to Taha, artificial intelligence can provide a simplified explanation of difficult concepts, which helps students understand the academic material better, and also helps them improve their self-learning skills, in addition to helping them solve school assignments, including:
Does artificial intelligence negatively affect students?
For her part, educational guide Anna Hovanezyan stresses the need for these tools not to be treated as a substitute for thinking and diligent effort.
There are many concerns about the negative impact of artificial intelligence on education, and its limitation on the development of students’ critical thinking skills, as they will obtain information quickly and easily, without thinking or effort.
“Among the most important negatives is the failure to verify the information contained in research, as well as the activities and tasks that require students to develop certain skills, which may not be developed by relying on an artificial intelligence tool, which is what many international universities have denounced and banned its use,” according to Hovanezian.
The educational counselor believes that the misuse of modern technologies would lead to “graduating students who are not very competent in academics, and most of the fears were essentially moral. The importance of the human and humanitarian factor in the educational process must be emphasized between students and professors.”
Hovannesian confirms that students’ use of artificial intelligence techniques to obtain correct answers easily and without the need to study and prepare for tests “leads to an increase in cheating rates, due to providing quick and accurate answers to students, and they may become less likely to think, analyze and conclude, and thus this affects their mental and thinking abilities in the future”.
She considers that the most prominent defects of artificial intelligence lie in the high rate of laziness among students and their lack of creativity.
Questions that need answers!
For its part, the “Time for Kids” website suggested ways to raise the levels of education using artificial intelligence, pointing out the possibility of combining traditional and modern methods to revolutionize education.
On the other hand, the website pointed out the danger of over-reliance on the “intelligence” of modern tools, pointing out that they are not at the level of intelligence that many imagine, “as these tools are not designed for logical thinking… These tools are programmed to learn from the information they are fed with, and they tend to… recurring patterns.
Time for Kids stresses the need for students to pay attention to sources of information, “and judge what to believe as a reliable source, so that they can coexist with artificial intelligence tools and other technological developments.”
