Kate Winslet is turning 50 next year and in a celeb world packed with fillers and botox, the British actress is turning the tide on aging in Hollywood.
In a new interview the Titanic icon has revealed she ‘refused to cover up her belly rolls’ after a crew member told her to during filming for her latest film Lee.
She also admitted to Harper’s Bazaar that she doesn’t mind looking less-than-perfect on screen, declaring: ‘I take pride in it because it is my life on my face, and that matters. It wouldn’t occur to me to cover that up.’
She’s proudly shunned the Hollywood beauty standards and is the poster girl for changing attitudes, expressing her ‘relief that women are so much more accepting of themselves’.
But how does Kate look after herself as she approaches her milestone birthday?

The star has been famously anti-surgery for years, once declaring that ‘it goes against my morals, the way that my parents brought me up, and what I consider to be natural beauty.’
Instead she takes a from the inside out approach, focusing on what she puts into her body, especially before public appearances.
‘Sleep and health play a big part in looking fresh. If I’m over-tired or stressed, no amount of make-up and hair can disguise the impact of that on one’s face,’ she has said.
Kate follows a balanced diet, sharing cooking duties with her vegan husband Ned Abel Smith, but says she will cut out her favourite treats in the days before a red carpet.
‘I do try and look after myself in the few days running up to that moment. Nothing fancy or expensive… my top tip would be water. Water, water, water. Keep the body hydrated and the skin will follow suit.’
Adding that she tries to ‘stay away from salt and alcohol before an important occasion and throw a few green smoothies together in a Nutribullet.’
Her favourite indulgences include wine, but as she gets older she has noticed that a rich diet and too much alcohol catches up with her.

‘When I was younger I could get away with a lot more. But these days I try my best to feed my skin from the inside out—good food,’ she advises.
‘I don’t eat meat any more. I drink plenty of water every day, take my supplements -when I remember!’
She understands the importance of makeup as she gets older too, building up a book of tricks from her longterm makeup artist Lisa Eldridge – so much so that she often feels comfortable doing her own glam before an appearance.
Her signature red carpet look is a bold red lip, and with good reason as she has explained she doesn’t like anything ‘too heavy around the eyes where make-up can gather and make a person look older’.
As for exercise Kate, like many, jumped on the Peloton bandwagon during the pandemic, declaring that she was ‘in love’ with her exercise bike.

A Peloton ride also helps her mental health after a long, emotionally-draining day on set, like the ones she had during the 2021 shoot for gritty crime drama Mare Of Easttown.
‘That was almost the one thing I couldn’t have gone without, because of the way it helped me decompress,’ she said of her bike at the time.
‘The sweat factor, the challenge of it, the great chat from the instructors. Sometimes I’d wail, I’d yell, or I’d cry on the bike; I can release so much. I am learning that my body is capable of more than I thought it was has gone a long way with me.’
Another fitness trend which has reached Kate in her idyllic Sussex village where she lives with Ned and their son Bear, ten, is cold water swimming, which she credits with helping her circulation and keeping her skin clear.
It was her husband who got her into cold water swimming, with the actress referring to Ned as a superfan of Wim Hof, the Dutch motivational speaker and extreme athlete also known as The Iceman.
The family own a beach hut on the West Sussex coastline and Kate can often be found there, warming up after a sea swim but she also incorporates Hof’s philosophies into her daily life, challenging herself to stay in a cold shower for as long as possible every morning.

With her wholesome, refreshing and quite British approach to health and beauty Kate is doing her bit to ease the pressure on Hollywood standards
When she’s not on her bike or in freezing water, she loves a power yoga class a couple of times a week and daily dog walks with her family.
And with her wholesome, refreshing and quite British approach to health and beauty Kate is doing her bit to ease the pressure on Hollywood standards.
‘I do want to say to any woman who is trying to emulate a Hollywood look: it’s a myth. It’s honestly a myth,’ she told Vogue.
‘Women on the red carpet have been sat in hair and make-up for four hours to look like that and probably had facials every day during the week in the run up to the event. I know because I’ve been there and had that many facials.’
‘It’s a moment in time. For me, the secret to ageing at any age, in Hollywood or not, is actually accepting who you are and accepting that we can’t fight change.’
‘Sure, we can do things to support our health and our skin, to feel a little bit better and make ourselves last a bit longer. But for me, it’s about beauty coming from within and not being so self critical – it’s a big deal.’
