2008
Mercedes’ Hamilton (above) won his first Formula One world championship way back in 2008
Having missed out on the title in his rookie season, Hamilton left it dramatically late in 2008.
As the rain fell, he passed Toyota’s Timo Glock on the last lap of the final race of the season in Sao Paulo.
The home crowd were crestfallen that their man, Ferrari’s Felipe Massa, who had crossed the line as champion, was denied.
2014

Hamilton made the visionary decision to leave McLaren for Mercedes, a move that ended a six-year wait for his next championship.
It came down to a decider with team-mate Nico Rosberg in Abu Dhabi — the only grand prix to offer double points.
A blistering start under the lights helped Hamilton reclaim the crown.
2015
He now had the mental edge over Rosberg and turned the season into a one-horse gallop.
He duly won the American Grand Prix to wrap it up with three rounds remaining.
It gave him the third title he had always sought to match his hero Ayrton Senna. Rosberg bounced back the following year to make Hamilton wait for No 4.
2017
Hamilton (above) held off Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel to win yet another world crown in 2017
Rosberg retired with his one championship, admitting he could never summon the fortitude required to maintain a sustained challenge to Hamilton.
Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel won five races and looked a strong challenger, only for the Scuderia challenge to wilt.
Hamilton, who won nine races, took the honours with two rounds to spare.
2018
The season that showcased two of his great moments: defeating Ferrari at Monza and the lap of his life for Singapore pole. Vettel crashed out in Germany and never recovered. Hamilton, in an arguably inferior car, took the title in Mexico.
2019
Hamilton picked up six victories in the opening eight races in a victorious 2019 season
A streak to glory. Sometimes a slow starter to a season, Hamilton carried over his form from 2018 to reel off six victories in the opening eight races. The outcome never looked in doubt with Bottas his closest rival in the end.
Second place in America was enough to take him ahead of Juan Manuel Fangio’s five titles won in the Fifties.
2020
A record-Breaking year that saw him move ahead of Michael Schumacher’s tally of 91 wins, a feat achieved in Portugal with his father Anthony in attendance.
Sunday’s crushing victory, sealing title No 7 with three rounds to go, showcased the blend of experience and talent that makes an eighth championship appear inevitable.
