If you pack your belongings properly it will keep them safe and undamaged during the move. Linens and towels need to be packed in a special way as much as glasses, books and furniture. Hiring professionals from Paradise Move & Storage you can be sure they will help to prepare your stuff for moving. But if you pack possessions on your own, we have some tips to help you. Here are some advices on how to pack towels.
Gather the Right Packing Supplies
The first step is to get packing supplies. The amount of supplies will be based on the number of items you have and on their size.
Supplies include:
- packing boxes;
- packing paper or plastic wrap;
- packing tape;
- markers for labelling.
You can get already used boxes in nearby shops or at work, or ask if some of your friends have old boxes. And, of course, you can buy new boxes that are better as they are more sturdy.
Wrap the Towels and Linens in Packing Paper or Plastic Wrap
Plastic wrap or packing paper should be used to secure towels from dirt before they are placed in boxes. When you placed all the stuff into the box, put a layer of paper on top. It will protect towels and linens if water or some liquid is spilled.
Neatly Fold Your Items
Packing towels and linens is time-consuming just because it takes time to fold it properly. Although it may seem easy and fast to crumple and push stuff into the box, linens and towels should be folded neatly. Try to make them flat, so you can put more items in one box and have less number of boxes in a result.
Practice Space-Saving Techniques When Stacking Items in the Box
As linens, towels and bedding take a lot of space; you should pack them as compactly as you can. Put the stuff flat into the box. If you have extra space in corners or between items, you can roll some towels up and put them there. But be careful and don’t overstuff boxes, always check the maximum weight they can hold. Usually, bedding can become very heavy too fast, so don’t try to put a lot in one box.
Seal the Box Tightly With Tape and Label It
Once you put the stuff in boxes, seal them with a couple of layers of packing tape. Ensure boxes are secure and will not fall apart while moving. You will have plenty of boxes when it is time to unpack all your property. Write with a marker on boxes what stuff is inside them. Use not only general names of items, but specified. For example, not “towels”, but “bath towels”, “kitchen towels”.
Use Extra Linens and Towels to Pad Other Items
Do not rush to hide all the towels. You may need them to cover fragile items later. Packing is about planning, so try to think it through what breakable stuff you have in the house and leave an approximate amount of towels unpacked.
Leave Some Clean Towels and Linens Out for the First Night
Also think about the first night in the new house you’ll move in. You will probably need some towels to simply wash and wipe your hands, take a shower. You also will need bedding for the first night. So, you’d better leave some bedding and towels unpacked and put them into your box or bag with essential stuff like meds, hygiene products etc.
Save Your Towels and Linens for Last
On your last day and night before leaving, towels and bedding are needed just as much as you do on your first night at your new place. Packing all of your towels and bedding too early may make you feel uncomfortable as you will need them pretty often before leaving. So, save some towels and bedding to use them before living.
Prepare Your Unpacking Checklist
When you eventually move to the new place, you will face plenty of stuff to unpack. Preparing the checklist will help you with that. Write down what you need to unpack first, these are things like hygiene products, towels, necessary clothes and other essential things. Then you will slowly move on to stuff that you don’t need immediately.
