Hundreds of people gathered in Seattle, Washington, to protest violence against Asian Americans during the Corona pandemic.
The Seattle Times reported that a crowd of protesters gathered in Hing Park in Seattle’s Chinatown International to take part in rallies condemning the attacks against Asian Americans.
Former Washington State Governor Gary Locke, the state’s first Asian governor, spoke at the rally, calling for an end to violence against Asian American communities.
He said, “This violence must stop, do not make us scapegoats.”
Dao Constantine, Executive Director of the Qing District, who is married to a Japanese American, announced that he would propose significant funding for education and publicity to address racial hatred and prejudice in the local community in the next budget.
Noriko Nasu, a Japanese-American teacher who was attacked with her friend, the protesters, addressed her, saying, “She doesn’t think the law is well drafted to protect people from hate crimes.”
