A state of sadness and anger reigned on social media in Lebanon, following the death of a Lebanese woman due to her failure to obtain medication to regulate heart rate.
Mrs. Soraya Fawaz suffered from heart palpitations, and after 3 days of trying to get the medicine her heart suddenly stopped beating during a family dinner in a restaurant.
The news of this woman’s death was a shock to activists on the Lebanese and Arab digital platforms, especially as it brought back to the fore the discussion about the drug interruption in Lebanon. They denounced the continuing crisis of drug shortages in Lebanon, calling for better health care conditions, and the provision of adequate medicines for patients, especially chronic diseases that present their lives at risk.

Ismat Qassem suggested that the news of the death of a mother of 3 children due to the loss of heart medicine should top all communication and media sites before any news about not running or a movie. It has value for officials, and another evidence of the citizen’s deprivation of the most basic rights.”
While Omar Abu Deif had mercy on the woman, and said that he was very angry because a person dies because of a medicine box, and asked: “Where is your state? Where are the adults? .. But God’s destiny has passed.. God forbid.. May God give you patience.”
Imad Youssef wrote, “The heart of Soraya Fawaz did not betray her, but their criminality did. Those who betrayed her are the ones who cut off medication for her and for every patient.”
As for Abdullah Al-Filali, he tweeted, “How difficult it is to be unable to help and hear such news… God have mercy on her. She has fallen victim to the drug trade and political struggles… My condolences to you and the Lebanese people.”
Boutros Khalil said that “health coverage is not a luxury, and the effects of its lack are not abstract ideas, not theories, not mere numbers and statistics… which has frighteningly affected individuals who have families.”
