(CNN Spanish) –– Shakira premiered her new song “Copa Vacía” on Thursday night, together with the Colombian Manuel Turizo.
The single, which in just two hours already has over a million views on YouTube, shows Shakira in the body of a mermaid while talking about a love that, in her words, is “colder than the month of January.” The lyrics follow the style of the artist’s previous collaborations with Karol G and Bizarrap, in which breakup and heartbreak were the protagonists.
“You see it like this, at this rate it cannot continue / I don’t know what else to do to get more from you / Because you don’t want it when I want it / You are colder than the month of January / I ask for heat and you only give ice”, Shakira starts singing.
After that stanza the chorus begins, while she and Turizo are in the water: “I’ve been thirsty for you for a while, I don’t know why / I’m left wanting more and wanting to drink from an empty glass.”
The song continues with Shakira telling her love that “a little leisure” would do her good and that “you don’t have to be a poet to sweeten my ear.” “Drop the phone, use your hand with me,” she sings, as she appears in what appears to be a giant aquarium that she is locked in.
The release comes a month and a half after the Colombian blew up social networks with the official video for “Acróstico”, in which her children, Milan and Sasha, appeared.
“Copa Vacía” will be part of Shakira’s new album, which will also include “Monotonía”, “I congratulate you”, “Acrostic” and its session along with Bizarrap.
The complete lyrics of “Empty Cup”
You see it like this, at this rate it cannot continue
I don’t know what else to do to get more of you
Because you don’t want when I want
You’re colder than the month of January
I ask for heat and you only give ice
I’ve been thirsty for a while
I don’t know why about you
I’m left wanting more
and wanting to drink from an empty cup
(bis)
You are always busy with so much business
It would do you good, my love, a little leisure
Relax here on the sofa and give me your attention
You don’t have to be a poet to sweeten my ear
Drop the phone, use your hand with me.
I know you’re hot, but I’m much hotter
I’ve been thirsty for a while
I don’t know why about you
I’m left wanting more
and wanting to drink from an empty cup
as if I didn’t feel anything
Now you look at me so different
And I swimming against the current
He has me on the street looking for
with what to fill this emptiness that you feel
I’m not a mechanic, but I try to fix it and it doesn’t work
Reviving a heart that does not react
I don’t want to try it with someone else.
I’ve been thirsty for a while
I don’t know why about you
I’m left wanting more
and wanting to drink from an empty cup
(bis)
Your kisses are salt water
I drink and nothing calms me down
I wait for you and you disappoint me
and that’s not how it works
But you don’t want when I want
You’re colder than January
I give you heat, but you always ice
I’ve been thirsty for a while
I don’t know why about you
I’m left wanting more
and wanting to drink from an empty cup
