Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is preparing for a new season after a summer in which he has signed a maximum extension with OKC that will take effect in 2022. There seems to be no doubt that the Thunder see him as the future star of their franchise , a weight that the point guard does not seem to see as excessive, since he himself has set much higher goals in his most recent statements.
“I want to be one of the best bases in history,” he said in an interview for Tyler Tynes, from the CQ. “I am not playing basketball just to try to be a good player. I want to be among the best of all time ”.
In his three seasons in the NBA, the truth is that Shai has not stopped growing as a player. In his first season with the Clippers, he already showed his enormous potential, but his step forward since he was transferred to Oklahoma City and could have more stripes has been extraordinary in almost every way. His goals are ambitious, but with such a rate of improvement, his ceiling could be very, very high.
We’ll see if this season he can surpass the 23.7 points and 5.9 assists he averaged last year. The Thunder are not yet expected to compete for anything, so Shai has time to continue growing as the franchise builds a roster around him that he can try to lead to higher heights in the coming years.
