Iberdrola will invest 2,104 million dollars in Brazil

The Spanish multinational Iberdrola plans to install in Brazil, through its subsidiary Neoenergia, what will be the company’s first floating photovoltaic plant in the world, and 2 million euros (2.104 million dollars) will be invested in its construction, reported the company.

The project will be built on the water sheet of the Xaréu dam, on the island of Fernando de Noronha (northeast Brazil), recognized by Unesco as World Natural Heritage and where Iberdrola is developing sustainable energy solutions.

With a capacity of 630 kilowatts (kW), the floating plant will generate some 1,240 megawatt hours (MWh) of green energy per year, enough to cover more than 50% of the energy consumption of the Companhia Pernambucana de Saneamiento (Compesa) on the island. The installation will have about 940 panels and its construction is scheduled to begin before the end of the year.

The project is carried out by Iberdrola together with Compesa, which operates the water and sewerage distribution network on Fernando de Noronha Island, and has the support of the Energy Efficiency Program regulated by the Brazilian National Electric Power Agency (Aneel). ). With the development of its first floating solar power plant, the Iberdrola group, dedicated to the production, distribution and sale of energy, intends to test this new technology and analyze its possible expansion.

The plant joins other sustainable projects developed by the company to provide renewable solutions and promote the preservation of the island’s ecosystem, the only inhabited island in the volcanic archipelago located in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean and with an approximate area of ​​167 square kilometers.
