Igor Lichnovsky made his long-awaited return to the pitch for Club América in their Liga MX Apertura 2025 season opener against Bravos de Juárez.
The match featured a surprising starting eleven from head coach André Jardine, who fielded an unconventional lineup with several players making their debut under the Brazilian manager.
However, the main focus was the return of defender Igor Lichnovsky, who had been sidelined for nearly a year. The Chilean international, a key player in the club’s back-to-back championship titles, is now once again available for selection.
Lichnovsky started at center-back in a lineup that included: Rodolfo Cota, Dagoberto Espinoza, Sebastián Cáceres, Christian Borja, Ralph Orquin, Alan Cervantes, Erick Sánchez, Alejandro Zendejas, Brian Rodríguez, and Rodrigo Aguirre.
The defender’s last match for Las Águilas was on August 17, 2024, in a Leagues Cup loss to Colorado. He underwent surgery following that game and completed his recovery in the first quarter of 2025. Because he was not registered for the previous tournament, his official return was postponed until this Apertura 2025 campaign.
