Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – A spokesperson for the home furnishing company “IKEA” said that the suspension of ship traffic in the Suez Canal has caused disruptions to the company’s supply chain.
A spokesman for the Swedish retail giant confirmed the presence of containers with IKEA products on board ships waiting to pass and resuming the path to destinations through the Suez Canal.
In an interview with CNN, the spokesman explained that containers filled with IKEA products on board ships suspended in the Suez Canal could “create restrictions on our supply chain,” if delays continue.
The spokesperson added, “As with any other situation in which the supply chain disrupts in some way, we will consider all available sourcing options to secure the availability of our products.”
The giant container ship “Ever Giffin” has been suspended in the Suez Canal since last Tuesday, and other ships were prevented from moving in either direction along the East-West trade route. It is noteworthy that the stranded vessel weighing 224 thousand tons was on its way to the port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands when derailed.
