Illegitimate use of force by Sedena led to the death of a person in 2021 in Tamaulipas: CNDH

The National Commission for Human Rights (CNDH) pointed out that the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) illegitimately exercised his force and caused the death of one person, as well as injuries to two others, the events occurred on February 7, 2021 in the state of Tamaulipas.

The CNDH detailed, through recommendation 71VG/2022, that four people were traveling in a private vehicle in Colinas del Sur, Nuevo Laredo, when they were approached by a Sedena truck whose staff, “without voice commands or lights,” told them It closed the passage and the military elements activated their firearms against the occupants.

As a result of the above, three people were arrested, two of whom suffered injuries and one more lost his life,” the CNDH indicated.

It added that the evidence it collected “allowed to prove” serious violations of human rights, legal security and personal integrity and the right to life, due to the illegitimate use of force and firearms, as well as the violation of human rights. of legal security and liberty, due to arbitrary detention.

The soldiers involved stated that while they were on a tour, they observed that the vehicle in question accelerated unexpectedly, so they stopped it and, immediately afterwards, backed away with the intention of running over two soldiers, while its occupants shot them with a long weapon. , so they repelled the aggression.

However, the CNDH assured that the expert tests carried out on the victims showed that they never fired shots and the alleged weapon found in their possession was never fired by them.

After this context, the human rights commission asked the Secretary of National Defense, Luis Cresencio Sandoval González, to repair, immediately, the damage caused to the three direct victims and two more indirect ones, including for that purpose a fair compensation and take taking into account the seriousness of the facts.

“Grant them the measure of rehabilitation, through medical and psychological care, in addition to providing them with free medicines and materials appropriate to their ailments,” the CNDH added in its document.

Similarly, he asked the competent authorities to negotiate a student scholarship program in favor of one of the indirect victims, to support him until he completes his higher education in public institutions.
