Let Them Breathe is headed into production on the fifth episode but prior to the production, the creator and animator, Candice Rogers, has released image stills from various episodes onto her Tumblr account. In the caption, it is mentioned the stills are rough drafts but even so, the show is looking nice and coming along just fine.
Words were exchanged with Rogers to find out more about this cartoon. Although there have been a few articles about the cartoon, a teaser both on Twitter and Youtube which were met with positive reviews, not much about the show has been revealed.
“Let Them Breathe,” Rogers starts, “It is about a world where a zombie apocalypse took place. Decades later, a cure has been found as well as a vaccine…” Rogers goes on to explain there are eleven kids/young adults who had been zombies. They were cured and turned back into humans; however, they no longer have any recollection of who they were. Not only that but they are given the task to go through various districts to cure zombies and vaccinate any survivors. Let Them Breathe follows these characters as they not only try to rebuild society but also rediscover who they were prior to being a zombie!
The entire production of six episodes is supposed to come to an end between the months of March to May. A trailer is also planned to be released in April. There’s no word as of yet which streaming platform or TV channel the show will air on. What is known is it is a kids’ show which will touch on themes such as friendship and family, but also will contain action and adventure.
“I wish the show had more fight and martial art scenes but given the budget, it wasn’t able to happen. Hopefully, that can happen in the second season, if a second season comes to fruition.” Rogers says. “I’m really into martial arts myself especially in Chinese cinema, so there’s a lot I’d like to be able to incorporate more of in the show and in future projects for kids and even mature audiences if all goes well!”
Mutts Presents, the name Candice Rogers also works under, is new but has the potential to be a content provider that delivers cartoons and other productions to various platforms. The Twitter account specifically has a small following and is growing steadily. The Youtube channel and Instagram page are expected to do the same within the following year or two. Already Rogers’ IMDB page has jumped more than 5 million in regards to ranking and popularity! She not only has history in animation but also previously worked in live-action with credits such as Trapped, an LGBT thriller short film, the writer of K-Pop The Movie which sadly did not proceed onward, an indie documentary, and an indie sci-fi.
“I’d love to get back in live-action; the productions I’ve done, I really enjoyed. I just love the overall process. There is hope that I will be in live-action once more but I don’t like to count my chickens before they hatch. There’s no problem in me taking it a step at a time,” Rogers tells us. There’s even a script Rogers has worked on titled Carriers but is not able to give out any information on it as of yet.
When asked who her favorite character was in Let Them Breathe, Rogers did not hesitate to name her most likeable character.
“10! He’s humorous and silly, very positive and friendly. He just has a really good personality. In fact, he kind of reminds me of Beast Boy from the Teen Titans cartoon that took place in the mid 2000s.” Rogers explains. “You know, he has that hilarious attitude but is also really hurt deep down.”
