The director of the Federal Center for Conciliation and Labor Registration (CFCRL), Alfredo Dominguez Marrufo, affirmed that the first of May 2023 ends the term to legitimize collective labor contracts, doing otherwise would lead the country to “contempt”, he said in the framework of the 4th National Labor Index Forum.
Alfredo Domínguez explained that “if we (the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare and the CFCRL) want to extend the term, we would need to modify this by the Congress of the Union; and second, it is not only something contemplated in the law, in the transitory norm that this peremptory period has to be fulfilled, whoever wants to legitimize their contracts within this period legitimizes it, and whoever will not be left without a collective contract, that is the sanction that establishes, in any case, this transitory”.
Likewise, he recalled that there is a commitment of the Mexican State towards its commercial partners, the United States and Canada, “it is not a matter of the STPS nor of Federal Labor Centerthen, the ‘absolute no, I can’t say it because I’m not the Congress of the Union, but I can’t say yes either because, in that sense, I have to abide by what the law establishes”.

“How to explain to business partners that we had 4 years for each union to consult their workers if they agreed or not with the contract and that they didn’t have time? I tell them, we have to find another justification, we have other reasons so that this can be done with an exception; but the Congress of the Union will have to see it and, in its case, the Mexican State itself as a whole in front of its commercial partners”.
