Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said his country is committed to mitigating the impact of climate change, and pledged that his country will produce 60% clean energy through renewable energy resources by 2030.
Imran Khan indicated – according to the official Pakistan News Agency – that Pakistan will cancel coal-based energy projects, and in addition, 30% of its vehicles will be powered by electricity.
Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan’s comments came during his speech at the Climate Ambition Summit, which was held on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the Paris Agreement, through video communication technology, adding that Pakistan’s contribution to global emissions is less than 1%, but it is vulnerable to significant climate change.
He said that the Pakistani government has relied on nature-based solutions to address the effects of climate change by planting 10 billion trees in the next three years, adding that the number of Pakistani national parks has increased from 30 to 45.
