The head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, assured that justice will be done after the collision of two trains in a tunnel on Line 3 of the Metro registered this Saturday morning, which left the death of a young woman and more than 50 injured.
In his message to the press that lasted just under five minutesthe official explained that the investigation has already begun to find out the causes of this accident that occurred between the La Raza and Potrero stations of Line 3, and reiterated that the Collective Transport System (STC) Metro does have a sufficient budget to operate.
“As always, our priority is the victims and justice will also be done, there is an investigation by the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office, the experts are there, the final consequences will be reached,” said Sheinbaum Pardo.
In a press conference and without answering questions, the capital’s president released the latest update on the actions that they have implemented as a local authority to deal with the incident.
Sheinbaum Pardo said that the people who were injured are concentrated in seven hospitals in Mexico City, in addition, each member of the central government cabinet is in charge of a hospital unit.
“We moved to the seven hospitals, I asked the cabinet that each one take charge of the hospitals,” said the official.
Sheinbaum confirmed that 57 injured people have been registered, in addition to the death of a woman. The official commented that the train driver is in serious condition.
“Four people were trapped, and some time later all four are hospitalized, so far the person who is most seriously ill is the train driver,” he added.
The collision of two trains in the line 3Sheinbaum revealed, it was at 9:16 a.m. on January 7, between La Raza and Potrero stations.
“I want to express our solidarity and total support for the people who are currently in hospitals and of course all our support and solidarity with Yaletzi’s family, I have come from being with her parents and they are being given all the necessary support. “Said the official without giving more details about the identity of the person who died in the accident.
Sheinbaum said that in the next few hours the Metro will give more information on when the operations of all Line 3 will be restored or if the section where the accident occurred will have to be closed to carry out the pertinent investigations. For now, the Line 3 service is in operation up to the Tlatelolco station.
