Belgian Kevin De Bruyne revolutionized contract negotiation methods by providing a detailed analysis of his statistics during his contract extension talks with Manchester City in April 2021.
The British newspaper “The Athletic” reported that the Belgian international appeared before City officials armed with detailed reports on his statistics, which determined his contribution to Pep Guardiola's team and his role in chasing titles.
The Belgian star sought help from providers of analytical data to determine his market value and the salary he should receive, and he conducted negotiations without an agent, but with the presence of lawyers, to finally reach the renewal of his contract until June 30, 2025.
Thanks to this strategy, De Bruyne was able to extract the highest salary for a player in the Premier League, estimated at 400,000 pounds sterling (464,000 euros) per week.
Since then, this method has spread widely and sports statistics and numbers companies have witnessed an increase in data provided by brokers or players' agents, according to the newspaper.
