The US Senate accepted, in its first approval, the administration of the new US President, Joe Biden, Avril Haynes, for the position of Director of National Intelligence.
Haynes confirmed in a speech during her appointment that confronting the threat of Chinese espionage and foreign influence operations in general will be her top priority.
Haynes stressed that if she is appointed Director of National Intelligence, she will tell the truth to the Authority and will work to restore confidence within the intelligence community and among Americans in general.
It is noteworthy that Haynes met in 2007 with Biden, who was then chairman of the Congressional Foreign Relations Committee, and served as deputy chief advisor to the committee for the Democratic Party.
One year after the start of Barack Obama’s presidency, she was appointed as an assistant treaty advisor at the State Department, and then the president selected her as his deputy assistant and deputy national security advisor in the White House.
In August 2013 Haynes was chosen as deputy director of Central Intelligence, then deputy national security advisor in 2015, to be the first woman to hold both positions.
