Saint Petersburg witnessed the inauguration of a unique “Severny Polios” or Arctic ice-resistant platform for pole exploration.
This platform is characterized by its oval shape, which according to the head of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute, Alexander Makarov, will help it to resist the glaciers.
The “Arctic” ship can travel through the glaciers at speeds of up to 10 knots. It is 83.1 meters long and 22.5 meters wide. It can be provided with two years of fuel. It is led by a crew of 14 people. The Scientific Research Center accommodates 34 people on board. It will be equipped for the takeoff and landing of multi-role Mi-8 and Mi-38 helicopters.
