“In the next few days the increase in the minimum wage for next year will be announced, I want it to be agreed unanimously – employers, workers and the government – and I also want it to be around 20%, so we would reach the end of the government with an increase of 100% in real terms throughout the national territory,” he said in his speech at the Zócalo in Mexico City.

The President recalled that the minimum wage went from 88 pesos, upon arrival in government, to 172 pesos; an increase of 62% in real terms and at the border the increase is more than double, “something never seen before in the last 40 years,” he said.

In 2019 the increase was 16.2%; by 2020 it reached 20%; in 2021 it was 15% and 22% in this 2022, that is, in 4 years from 88 pesos to 173 pesos per day.

In addition, the Federal Executive referred to the labour reform of 2019, of which he said “for the first time the free and secret vote is respected in union elections. Subcontracting was eliminated and with the reform of the Constitution, the distribution of profits went from 100,000 million to 200,000 million pesos from 2020 to 2021”.
