An Indian government official announced that the withdrawal of Indian and Chinese forces from the disputed border region would likely be completed within a week.
In an interview with “The Hindu” newspaper, the official pointed out that the withdrawal will take place at a good pace, noting that it represents a difficult logistical task as it is necessary to transport heavy equipment and dismantle the defense structures that the two sides have built on the banks of Pangong Tsu Lake on the border.

Within 48 hours after the completion of the troop withdrawal from the lake, talks are expected to take place between the leaders of the Indian and Chinese armies in the region, probably next week, according to the official.
The subsequent talks are expected to focus on other points in the border region, which witnessed clashes between Chinese and Indian forces last August.
