Indonesian Minister of Security, Muhammad Mahfouz, announced today, Wednesday, that the militant group “Front for the Defense of Islam” is banned.
Mahfouz said that the group, widely known by the acronym “FPI”, was officially banned, and that the ban took effect immediately, and any activities it undertook would be banned.
The Islamic Front is led by cleric Raziq Shihab, a controversial figure in Indonesia who was arrested earlier this month.
