INE holds the last election before the renewal of four directors

The General Council of National Electoral Institute (INE) met this Sunday, February 19, to begin today’s extraordinary electoral day in Tamaulipas, where a senator of the Republic will be elected after the death of Faustino López Vargaswho was the substitute for the current governor of that state, Américo Villareal.

The President of the INE, Lorenzo Córdova, informed that this will be the last election organized by the INE with its current structure, since the next April 3 will conclude their position Adriana Favela, Ciro Murayama, Jose Roberto Ruiz Saldana and his own Lorenzo Cordova.

“Today’s Election Day will be the last conducted by the current members of the General Council, and particularly for four of the current members of this highest collegiate management body, including myself. Therefore, due to the meaning of this date and the importance of this election, as they all are, it has seemed appropriate to make some reflections, “said the president counselor Lorenzo Córdova.

“As we have done since April 2014, today, once again, the INE fulfills its mission so that citizens attend a new appointment with the polls, in this case in the state of Tamaulipas, for the extraordinary election of a senate, and, therefore, fully assert their right to a free and secret vote, and to do so in authentic elections”, he added.

After the death in an accident of substitute senator Faustino López, the Senate of the Republic issued on November 30, 2022 the call for the extraordinary election to the vacant senatorial office for the state of Tamaulipas.

This Sunday, 4,777 polling stations were installed, to which 2.7 million citizens of that state are summoned.

With a cut-off at 11:42 a.m. this Sunday, the Election Day Information System reported the installation of 4,541 polling stations, that is, 95.06% of those approved. In the electoral day of this Sunday, 1,677 electoral observers, 29 foreign visitors and 26,748 representatives of political parties participate.
