The president counselor of the National Electoral Institute (INE), Lorenzo Córdova, called on the Chamber of Deputies to accept receiving technical information about its functions, and thus avoid the budget cut that it foresees for more than 4,000 million pesos for 2023 .
“It is worrying that, again, a cut to the INE will be proposed, this time for 4,475 million pesos. I offer again to the Chamber of Deputies all the information that justifies the budget request made by the Institute for fiscal year 2023”, he stated.
It should be noted that the General Council of the INE asked the Chamber of Deputies for a budget of 14,439 million pesos for 2023, which includes resources for next year’s elections in the State of Mexico and Coahuila, the preparation of the presidential succession of the 2024 and an eventual popular consultation next year.
The INE operating budget represents 0.19% of the Federal Expenditure Budget (PEF) projected for 2023, that is, “20 cents out of every 100 pesos of the PEF.”
However, a majority of Morena and legislative allies approved yesterday in the Budget Commission a cut for the INE for 4,475 million pesos. This situation must still be analyzed by the plenary session of the San Lázaro legislative precinct.
Poll
On the other hand, the INE clarified that none of the 12 surveys that it has contracted from 2019 to date had the purpose of electorally measuring the president counselor Lorenzo Córdova, since he recalled that he is also prevented from aspiring to a popularly elected position for up to two years after leaving office.
It should be noted that in yesterday’s morning conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, he was asked about the fact that Morena accused the INE of conducting personalized surveys, to which the president insisted that the “conservative bloc”, as he calls the opposition, has the intention of running Córdova as an independent presidential candidate.
On the subject, the INE mentioned that between January 2019 and October 2022, the National Coordination of Social Communication commissioned 12 surveys: nine by telephone (with 400 interviews) and three in housing (1,600 interviews).
He stated that during 2022 two telephone surveys were carried out that are available on the INE’s Transparency Obligations portal, “so there has never been any opacity or concealment of them.”
The INE said that the objective of the 12 surveys is to evaluate the image and perception of citizens about the INE, its functions, the fulfillment of its objectives and, based on these studies, to evaluate and define the communication and dissemination strategies of the INE. Institute.
He specified that some surveys have included questions on current issues, for example, the Popular Consultation in 2021 and the Revocation of the Mandate in 2022.
