The US inflation it slowed down in November, to locate the PCE index at 5.5% annual against 6.1 in October, reported this Friday the Department of Commerce.
Last month’s result is in line with what was expected by analysts.
The Federal Reserve (Fed) wants to reduce the inflation at 2% annually.
In one month, the rise in prices was barely 0.1%, compared to 0.4% in October. The measures taken by the Fed to curb inflation seem to have had an effect but they discouraged consumption, which only grew 0.1% against 0.9% in October.
Consumers spent more on services than on goods.
Revenues increased somewhat less than expected: 0.4% against 0.7% the previous month. The increase in revenue is related to the increase in wages, the Commerce Department noted in its press release.
The labor shortage that the United States has suffered for a year and a half has caused employers to raise wages to attract and retain staff.
The PCE inflation index is the one preferred by the Fed for its macroeconomic decisions.
Another measure, the CPI, which is the benchmark and was published last week, also showed a sharp slowdown in November, to 7.1% yoy, compared to 7.7% in October.
