Venezuelan inflation stood at 234% in 2022said the vice president of the country, Delcy Rodríguez, on Monday.
The data means a slowdown compared to 2021 in that South American nation that is struggling to contain its economic crisis.
Rodríguez alluded to the inflation rate in a meeting on Monday with Turkish and Venezuelan business leaders.
The country’s Central Bank publishes economic data infrequently and has not given inflation figures for November and December.
For months, inflation in Venezuela reached single digits because the government applied an orthodox policy to slow down prices by anchoring the exchange rate, the limitation of credit and public spendingand the tax increase.
But the strategy has shown cracks because since November prices have been increasing strongly due to the greater depreciation of the bolivar, which exceeded the barrier of 20 units per dollar.
The official said in an act with Turkish businessmen that there have been exchange disturbances that are being corrected.
