Initiative on vacations has already been analyzed, no changes are required: Patricia Mercado

Given the discussion that has been unleashed in the Chamber of Deputiesregarding whether or not to discuss the opinion on “decent vacations” approved by the Senate of the Republicone of the main promoters of the proposal to increase the vacation period from 6 to 12 days in the first year, Senator Patricia Mercado, affirmed that the proposal can be approved with the deputies before December 15 and without changes.

“I trust that it will be approved, without changes, within the ordinary period that ends on December 15. You will remember that this uncertainty occurred in the Senate when they asked for more time and I always maintained that there was an agreement to approve it, ”he said.

He added that legislative processes are normal where one reform is given priority over another for 1 or 2 weeks or time is requested to consolidate agreements.

However, “in this case, citizen support is very broad and genuine. The legislative majority knows that this transcends the parties”.

For this reason, the legislator recalled that in March an open parliament was held in the Senate with business, union, academic, and civil society representation and the dialogue was maintained until the votes between October and November.

Mercado said that the country must enter a “new era in the relationship with working people” and stressed that the good will of the parties to achieve “decent vacations” has always been maintained.

“If we have maintained the dialogue throughout this year to achieve decent vacations, it is because there was always goodwill on the part of the parties. If we approve 12 days it is because we consider them. It is time to open the way to a new era in the relationship with working people, ”he said.

However, the position adopted by the president of the Morena bench, Ignacio Mier, and consequently the president of the Labor Commission, Jesus Baldenebrois to give more space to the analysis.

Meanwhile, there is a group of legislators who seek that, if it does not reach the ordinary session that ends on December 15, then there is an extraordinary one so that the plenary session approves the vacation periods of 12 days per year.
