She gushed: ‘Any time I’m with Jodie, I don’t even think about people looking at me – I’m protective of her, almost.’
Although Katarina was born in Liverpool she spent the first year of her life in the Bahamas before her family moved back to England, settling in Halewood.
Once the Johnson-Thompson family had returned home to the UK, the youngster was enrolled in a local primary school and that is where her passion for athletics sprung – and where she met BAFTA-winning actress to-be Jodie.
During their school years, the duo grew close as they both attended St Julie’s Catholic girl’s school.
The pair then pair headed off to separate universities to pursue their dreams, with Katarina going to Liverpool John Moores University to study sports science.
They remain in touch to this day and regularly post pictures together on social media, whether attending Ascot or sipping cocktails together, keeping in touch amid their very busy schedules with a cheekily-named WhatsApp group dubbed: ‘H*s in Different Area Codes’.
‘We’ve got a girls’ group chat,’ Comer told Glamour magazine when speaking of her friends from Liverpool, including Katarina. ‘It’s called ‘H*s in Different Area Codes’ because we are never in the same place at the same time… So that’s always very lively.’
Jodie is now best known as the woman who portrays ruthless assassin Villanelle alongside Sandra Oh in Killing Eve.
