The reactivation of tourism whets the appetite of investors. The Vice President of Operations for Mexico, Central America and Cuba of the hotel group Accor, Javier López, considered that interest in new projects in the sector has returned, which at the moment have two developments underway that will operate with the Novotel brand (one in Mazatlán and another in the historic center of Mexico City) and that other interested businessmen have approached them.
“It must be said: in Mexico there is good news. After the complicated pandemic, tourism is returning to 2019 levels, although in some beach destinations they have already been exceeded, and that is arousing the interest of the private sector. It feels like a good comeback carefully following health protocols. Mass events and corporate travel are back. The nervousness of hoteliers is passing,” she commented.
Three weeks ago, the manager participated in the opening of the Novotel Mexico City WTC, a brand dedicated to business travelers in the mid-segment where they are betting on creating “authentic experiences” of hospitality where design plays a relevant role, which is usually did not happen in the country. In an interview, López said that the group is receiving several requests for information about the emblematic Novotel brand, with which Accor was born in the south of France and now has 530 hotels in more than 60 countries (in Mexico there are three ).
“Today Novotel is in a moment of evolution. The middle segment is very competitive, especially with many North American brands that are constantly developing. However, our plan is more ambitious at the design level, we want to create unique spaces, innovative concepts of food and beverages, decoration or art, which is not common in this niche, because more lodging functionality is sought. We want to be between the medium and luxury segments while maintaining fair prices with business travelers”, he detailed.
The new concept can already be seen in the new hotel and in the coming weeks a remodeling will begin at its hotel in Santa Fe, Mexico City
According to the executive, the average occupancy of the category in 2019 was 60% and at the moment it is already around 50% with the expectation of exceeding the previous level before the end of this year.
