A member of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Salah El-Din Al-Kabbashi, will appear today, Sunday, before the investigation committee into the dispersal of the General Command sit-in, as the second military person to be questioned before the committee.
Sudanese media reported that the members of the Sovereignty Council are being questioned at the Republican Palace, and the team, Yasser Al-Atta, was questioned last week in 3 sessions that lasted 7 hours.
Shams El Din Kabbashi is the fifth member of the military in the Sudanese Sovereign Council, which was formed after the overthrow of President Omar al-Bashir in 2019.
It should be noted that the dispersal of the General Command sit-in took place on June 3, 2019, and resulted in the killing of at least 100 protesters, wounding hundreds of others, and the loss of dozens of protesters who were demanding the army hand over power to a civilian government.
The official spokesman for the Military Council at the time, Lieutenant General Shams El-Din Al-Kabbashi, stated in the famous press conference that followed the incident of the sit-in dispersal, and admitted that the council planned and implemented the dispersal of the sit-in.
The incident raised great resentment, internally and externally, and there were voices calling for her to be referred to the International Criminal Court.
