Investing Show: How to spot the dividend stars of the future

Dividend cuts have been on the menu this year, but is it worth income investors buying firms whose payouts have been slashed?

Laura Foll, co-manager of Lowland investment trust, joins us on the latest episode of the Investing show to reveal why she and fellow manager James Henderson are not averse to buying companies who have cut their payouts – and why they have been buying into some oil and commodities stocks.

Lowland adopts an investing philosophy that sets it aside from most income trusts, with a contrarian value outlook and a larger number of small companies.

Laura explains how the managers look for these small cap dividend stars of the future and why they are investing in university spin-offs turning exciting technology into businesses.

Also on this fortnight’s show, regulars Simon Lambert, of This is Money, Nick Batsford, of TipTV, and Richard Hunter, market analyst, discuss whether the stock market storm has passed and the rest of the year will see better returns – and take a look at what next for gold.
