(Trends Wide) — An Iowa teenager who killed his Spanish teacher was sentenced to life in prison Thursday, court documents show.
Willard Noble Chaiden Miller and Jeremy Goodale were 16 years old when they killed Nohema Graber in 2021.
Both pleaded guilty to premeditated manslaughter.
Miller was sentenced after a seven-hour hearing, according to Jefferson County Attorney Chauncey Molding.
“I believe the sentence was fair and appropriate given the gruesome and appalling circumstances of this case, and I feel justice was served,” Molding told Trends Wide in an email. “I think this sentiment is broadly shared by the Graber family and the Fairfield community.”
Miller will be eligible for parole after 35 years, court documents say.
Sentencing for Jeremy Goodale is scheduled for Aug. 23, according to Jefferson County records. His lawyers requested a postponement for a psychiatric evaluation.
Graber was a Spanish teacher at Fairfield High School. Her remains were discovered in Chautauqua Park in Fairfield, Iowa, the same day she was reported missing, authorities said at the time.
His remains were hidden under a tarp, a wheelbarrow, and railroad ties. He had suffered a head injury, according to a criminal complaint.
Trends Wide has contacted Miller’s attorney, Christine Branstad, for comment.
