The news of the resignation of Luz María de la Mora as Undersecretary of Foreign Trade disconcerted the business community of Mexico and the United States, right in the middle of the negotiation of the Consultation on energy policy, for which they trust in the appointment of an official with international trajectory to demonstrate whether or not it complies with the T-MEC rules.
The resignation has also generated concern within the United States embassy and they have begun to probe government sources for the profile that could replace the former negotiator, in order to anticipate if the Mexican government hardens its position in the Consultations within the framework of the dispute over energy.
With “sadness” said Larry Rubin, president of the American Society, of the American community, he received the news from the undersecretary, since he argued: “The departure of Luz María for Economy is not the best of times, since she has ample knowledge of the environment, the implications, the foreign companies and businessmen with disputes, and the key officials in the United States and Canada, with whom the administration of President López Obrador will have to face the controversy panels.”
The president of the Confederation of Industrial Chambers (Concamin), José Abugaber, trusted that the chief executive will assign a person with proven ability in trade negotiations. “We respect the decisions that are made in the Mexican government, in this particular case in the Ministry of Economy, and we trust in the capacity of its head, Raquel Buenrostro, and her work team,” said the leader of the industrialists.
In the confederated industry, said the president of the Concamin, we are ready to work with the new officials, because the purpose is to contribute to the strengthening of the economy and the well-being of all Mexicans.
According to Larry Rubin, the trade relationship between Mexico and the two nations (Canada and the US) represents the largest foreign investment in the country. “We are saddened by the departure of Undersecretary Luz María de la Mora, who was always a great supporter of the American Society, American companies in Mexico and foreign investment as a whole,” he lamented.
Various businessmen from the CCE were surprised and worried about the resignation, after two days ago they met with the Secretary of the Economy, Raquel Buenrostro and she did not inform them about it, on the contrary, she promised to have a dialogue.
