Iranian Health Minister Saeed Namaki announced the closure of several crossing points with Iraq, to curb the spread of the British Corona virus strain in his country.
“The crossing points to Iraq from the Khuzestan region, as well as the neighboring Eilam and Kermanshah provinces are closed to passenger traffic,” Namaki said in a statement to state television.
He added: “The main source of infection with the mutated Corona virus in Britain in the Khuzestan region is travelers who arrived from Iraq, and for this reason we closed the borders of this region until further notice.”
The official media stated that Iran, which is the Middle East country most affected by the Coronavirus, is currently witnessing an increase in the number of HIV infections, with 11 cities and towns in the Khuzestan region in the southwest of the country declaring highly dangerous “red” areas.
On Monday, Iraqi Health Minister Hassan Al-Tamimi said that the Corona virus strain discovered in Britain was detected in his country, which is registering a significant increase in the number of infections.
