Tehran confirms that an Iranian merchant ship was subjected to a “terrorist attack” in the Mediterranean
The Iranian Maritime Shipping Corporation confirmed earlier that a merchant ship had been attacked, which it described as a “terrorist”, in the Mediterranean last Wednesday.
On Friday, a spokesman for the Foundation, Ali Ghayathian, indicated that the “Shahr Kard” ship, which was on its way to Europe, was hit during its sailing in international waters with an explosion that caused some damage to it.
He explained that “the explosion hit the hull of the ship, and led to a limited fire that was able to be extinguished by the crew of the ship immediately without causing injuries.”
The “The Independent” newspaper, in its Persian version, reported that “the ship was hit by a missile, possibly an air-to-ground type, while it was sailing in the eastern Mediterranean near Syrian territorial waters.”
