Iran considered that the continuation of the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Mariano Grossi, in adopting political rather than technical positions, is not constructive and destructive.
Commenting on Grossi’s recent statements, which linked the future of the nuclear deal with transparency regarding Iran’s claim for “undeclared uranium,” Iran’s representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency, Kazem Gharib Abadi, said: “Such successive interviews only distort the credibility of the International Energy Agency. The nuclear program in Iran and the Iranians is blocking the way to the success of any of the Director General’s subsequent initiatives that are based on the principle of interaction and good intentions. “
Gharib Abadi added, “The nuclear agreement faces many problems and complications, and we do not need to add more complexity to it by taking such strange positions.”
He continued: “The issues are interlinked, and Iran will amend its steps and its interaction with the agency and the Director General, taking into account other issues.”
He stressed that “Iran continues to work with transparency and cooperation in the framework of its commitments to the safeguards agreement.” He said, “Do not use allegations that date back to more than two decades ago as a cover to justify your deliberate failure to address important problems regarding proliferation, including the nuclear situation of the Israeli entity.”
Grossi said in an interview with the American newspaper “Newsweek” on Tuesday that “there is a need for detailed and technical discussions to locate the undeclared uranium site in Iran, which is completely related to the future of the nuclear agreement, as everything is interconnected.”
