Today, Wednesday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry revealed the agreement between Tehran and South Korea on a mechanism to recover Iranian assets frozen in Seoul.
On this issue, Iranian Foreign Minister Muhammad Javad Zarif said: “Last week, I had (phone) talks with the South Korean Foreign Minister at his request, who announced that he is making his utmost efforts to reach a conclusion on this issue, and we are also following the case on our side. He pointed out that “it was agreed on the mechanisms, and it seems that the Koreans have not yet obtained the necessary licenses, so they announce that they are following the case.”
Zarif added, “From Iran’s point of view, it is not necessary to take the license from the Americans, but nevertheless the Korean side seeks to obtain licenses from the United States to release the frozen Iranian assets in it.”
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his South Korean counterpart, Chung E-young, discussed the issue of releasing Iran’s funds frozen in Seoul, and the release of the South Korean ship held in Tehran.
It is worth noting that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard forces arrested a South Korean tanker with 20 people on board on January 4 near the Strait of Hormuz, denying that this was taking hostages to pressure Seoul to release the Iranian assets, totaling $ 7 billion, which were frozen due to the sanctions.
