The Iranian ambassador to London, Hamid Baidinejad, said that his country had taken “very good” measures to provide the anti-Corona vaccine, but he made it clear that it did not include the purchase of the British vaccine.
Ahmadinejad added: “A direct relationship between the start of vaccination against Corona and the decrease in infections and deaths with the virus has not yet been proven. In Britain, statistics indicate that more than a million people have been vaccinated so far, but the number of infections and deaths is still very high.”
Iran has received 1st delivery of Sputnik V vaccine today with more to be delivered in coming weeks. 4.2 m dose of AstraZeneca vaccine will be also delivered to Iran soon within the WHO Covax program. Domestic developement of 3 vaccines are at advanced stages of human testing.

He continued: “The situation is similar in the United States and other European countries. Vaccination is the only effective way to confront Corona, but this does not mean that vaccination will quickly reduce the number of infected people and deaths.”
And he added: “The most effective way around the world is still to follow health protocols. Adhering to these protocols in conjunction with the vaccination procedure is the most effective way to confront the virus.”
He pointed out that Iran had bought 4 million doses of the Russian “Sputnik” vaccine, and that the first shipment of it arrived in the country on Thursday, in addition to receiving 4 million and 200 thousand doses of the “AstraZeneca” vaccine, as part of the “Kovacs” mechanism.
He pointed out that there are three homemade vaccines that go through the advanced stage of testing on humans to reach the stage of mass production.
