Iraq denied reports that Iran was using its territory to launch attacks on Israel, describing them as false pretexts and justifications intended to be a justification for attacking it, its sovereignty, and the sanctity of its lands.
The spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, Yahya Rasool, said in a statement today, Wednesday, citing the Ministerial Council for National Security in Iraq, that Iraq’s supreme interests necessitate working to distance its lands and airspace from the war that Israel is trying to expand, based on its aggressive policies against the countries and peoples of the region.
Rasoul continued that the Council renewed Iraq’s firm position in supporting the struggle of the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples, and denouncing the Israeli crimes of genocide against them.
Axios report
The Iraqi statement comes in response to a report published by Axios on October 31, based on two Israeli sources, about a possible Iranian attack from Iraqi territory.
Axios quoted the two Israeli sources as saying: Iran It is preparing to attack Israel from Iraqi territory in the coming days, while an informed source denied to the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation that there were any indications of this.
The two sources – whose identities the website did not reveal – added that Israeli intelligence information indicates that Iran is preparing to attack Israel from Iraqi territory.
The Axios report indicated that the attack is expected to be carried out from Iraq using a large number of drones and ballistic missiles.
The report said that carrying out the attack through pro-Iranian armed groups in Iraq may be an attempt by Tehran to avoid another Israeli attack against strategic targets in Iran.
Yesterday, Tuesday, the United States administration warned the Iraqi government that “if it does not prevent an Iranian attack from its territory,” it may face an Israeli attack on its territory, according to Axios, citing American officials.
Iran threatens a “harsh” response to the attack launched by Israel on a number of its military facilities.
On October 26, Israel launched an attack with warplanes on Iran, which in turn said that it successfully confronted Israel’s attempts to attack some points in Tehran and the country. The attack resulted in the killing of 4 soldiers and one civilian, according to official data.
This came after Iran anticipated the Israeli attack, following its launch of an attack on Israel in early October, in response to the assassination of the former head of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement (agitation) Ismail Haniyeh In Tehran late last July, and Tel Aviv announced its assassination of Secretary-General LHezbollah Lebanese Hassan NasrallahIts in a suburb Beirut South late September.
