Today, Saturday, our correspondent in Iraq stated that the Iraqi security forces have arrested a well-known political analyst, Ibrahim Al-Sumaida’i, on charges of “insulting the public authorities.”
RT correspondent said, “A large security force arrived last night at Al-Sumaidai’s house in the high-end Al-Harithiya district in central Baghdad and arrested him.”
After the arrest, a document issued by the Iraqi judiciary clarifying the reasons for the arrest was published, which is “an insult to the public authorities.”
And the official account of Al-Sumaida’i was published on Facebook: “More than hours passed without any clarification being issued by any government agency, and no one knows the executing agency or the reason for the arrest, and his whereabouts are not known until the moment. This is how dictatorship is practiced with a democratic cover.”
Al-Sumaidai, a political analyst and an officer in the Iraqi intelligence before 2003, appeared for many years through the media and gave opinions described as “bold” and declared his opposition to the government of Mustafa Al-Kazemi and always attacked it in the media.
