The US state of New York has announced that travelers who arrive will be required to isolate themselves for a period of two weeks, while taking special measures for those coming from Britain, according to the Independent.
In response to the new variant of the Corona virus spreading across London and southern England, Bill de Blasio announced a 14-day quarantine for travelers from the United Kingdom, and the police will impose fines of $ 1,000 (£ 750) on those breaking into isolation for each daily breach.
“Every traveler coming from the United Kingdom will receive an order from the Commissioner of the Ministry of Health … We cannot take a risk with anyone who travels, especially people who travel from the United Kingdom,” de Blasio said in a health conference. Or the hotel of every traveler coming from the United Kingdom, then there will be a direct follow-up to the home visit or a visit to the hotel by the deputy mayor to make sure that they are following the quarantine. If they do not, they will be punished. “
De Blasio stressed the importance of adhering to the quarantine, saying: “If you do not follow the quarantine, you endanger anyone else in the city, and we are fighting this second wave.”
The ruling will affect a relatively small number of UK citizens, most of the passengers arriving in New York are Americans, and since March 16, British citizens who have been in the UK or Ireland for the past two weeks by a presidential proclamation have been barred from entering the US.
Airlines including British Airways and Virgin Atlantic require travelers from the UK to the US to undergo Covid tests before boarding their aircraft, although this is not a requirement of the UK government.
