The Israeli army and the General Security Agency announced today, Monday, that they had thwarted “a network affiliated with the Hamas movement that is transferring money from Turkey to the West Bank.”
In a statement, the Israeli army said that “following the activities of the National Anti-Economic Terrorism Headquarters of the Ministry of Defense, in cooperation with the General Security Service and the Customs Authority,” containers were seized in the port of Ashdod containing goods in the hundreds of thousands of shekels, as well as obstructing the transfer of funds. The statement added that Defense Minister Benny Gantz signed an order to seize goods worth 121,000 dollars, which “were transferred by commercial companies from the Hamas headquarters in Turkey to Hamas members in the West Bank.”
The statement indicated that the order was signed and the funds seized “after an investigation conducted by the General Security Service over recent months revealed a channel for transferring funds intended to finance armed activities from the Hamas headquarters in Turkey through a Turkish company and a Palestinian company based in Nablus, which owns them. The joint group is divided into two Hamas operatives: Abdullah Faqha, who is a resident of Turkey, and Ayman Madari, a resident of the Nablus area.
Commenting on this, Security Minister Gantz said, “We will continue to strike terrorism, and pursue its organizational infrastructure wherever it is found, whether inside Israel or around the world.”
It should be noted that Israeli media reported a few weeks ago that Israel is requiring Turkey to close the “Hamas” office in Istanbul in order to restore full relations between Tel Aviv and Ankara.
