On Wednesday, Israeli Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz said that any new nuclear deal between the West and Iran should be “radically modified” compared to the previous agreement.
Steinitz, a close ally of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, urged US President Joe Biden to apply “tremendous pressure on Iran to change its behavior and dismantle its nuclear program.”

“All countries in the Middle East agree that this is a devastating threat that should be prevented in advance,” he said at the IHS “Internet conference”, speaking alongside his counterparts from Egypt and the Emirates.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said today, “If Washington lifted sanctions on Tehran, Iran would immediately return to fulfill its obligations to the nuclear agreement within two days.”
Rouhani said, “Tehran has preserved the nuclear agreement and our people have the right to cancel sanctions on it,” noting that “the delay in lifting the US sanctions is an injustice to the Iranian people.”
He added, “The administration of the US President, Joe Biden, recognized the mistakes of the previous administration, but did not take any serious step in lifting the sanctions,” stressing that “there is no real will in Washington to lift the sanctions on Tehran and return to the nuclear agreement.”
Rouhani clarified that “the new American administration changed the style of Washington’s speech and took a practical step by withdrawing the request to re-impose international sanctions in the Security Council,” noting that “the main issue for Iran is the lifting of sanctions, and that there is an American change in statements, but Washington’s policy towards Iran has not changed. “
