A group of about 1,800 former Israeli military and Mossad officials wrote a letter to US President Joe Biden asking him not to return to the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran.
The Jewish News Syndicate, a non-governmental organization that includes retired Israeli generals and spies, has warned that the possibility of the United States returning to the agreement, represents an “existential threat” to Israel.
The message said that members of the group are concerned about the White House’s path of returning to the 2015 deal, from which former President Donald Trump withdrew.
They criticized the agreement, describing it as “flawed,” and warned that “the return of the United States to join it would put Israel and the moderate Sunni countries that consider Iran a common threat to be besieged and in trouble.”
They warned that this would ultimately lead to a dramatic nuclear arms race in the region, and urged Biden to pursue the maximum pressure policy pursued by his predecessor to keep Iran under heavy sanctions.
