Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, has issued a strong warning against Hamas, stating that they will crush and destroy the group. He declared that every member of the terrorist organization is considered a ‘dead man’. Netanyahu made this statement during a late-night television address on the fifth day of the ongoing war.
The Prime Minister accused Hamas of heinous acts, including beheading soldiers and raping women. While the independent verification of these claims is yet to be confirmed, witnesses and rescue workers have described horrifying scenes. As the conflict continues, Israel has intensified its attacks on the Gaza Strip, causing growing uncertainty among the enclave’s residents. Furthermore, Gaza’s only power plant was shut down, exacerbating the situation.
The blockade imposed by Israel has resulted in a severe shortage of essential supplies such as fuel, food, water, and medicine in the Palestinian territory. Consequently, Gaza’s 2.3 million residents are currently experiencing a lack of electricity, internet access, and running water.
The Israeli offensive has displaced approximately 260,000 people in Gaza, according to the United Nations Palestinian refugee agency. These developments prompted Joe Biden to label the Hamas attack on Israel as the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust. However, the US President emphasized the need for Israel to adhere to the rules of war during a conversation with Netanyahu.
So far, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 2,300 people on both sides, leaving thousands more injured. The Israeli military reported 1,200 deaths, including 189 soldiers, since the surprise attack on Saturday. Meanwhile, Gaza’s health ministry has recorded 1,100 deaths and over 5,300 injuries.
In an unprecedented move, Netanyahu formed a coalition with key members of the opposition party, including Benny Gantz, who expressed support for war.
