Israeli media reported that dozens of Israeli tourists smuggled drugs to Dubai, where they traveled to celebrate the New Year.
The Israeli Channel 12 reported that about 8,000 Israelis celebrated the New Year in Dubai, noting that some of them smuggled drugs despite knowing that the penalty for drug smuggling or drug abuse in the UAE is up to 20 years imprisonment or even death.
The channel indicated that they smuggled hashish and marijuana in cigarette packs and socks, and held parties that involved drug and alcohol abuse in their hotel rooms.
An Israeli tourist told the channel: “We smuggled some hashish and marijuana for New Year’s Eve parties. It’s not cocaine, it’s a mild drug … I don’t think we’ll have any problems … we will celebrate properly.”
