The phenomenon is repeated twice a year, on October 22nd and February 22nd, so that the world witnesses through reality the extent of the Egyptian Pharaonic’s ability and superior ability in arithmetic, engineering and astronomy for thousands of years.
For his part, Abdel Moneim Saeed, Director of Antiquities of Aswan and Nubia, explained that the phenomenon of the sun crossing over the face of King Ramses II is unique, as it is 33 centuries old.
Saeed said that the phenomenon lasts for 20 minutes, and takes place twice during the year, one on October 22, to celebrate the season of flooding and agriculture, and the other on February 22, to celebrate the start of the harvest season, where he spoke of the perpendicularity of the sunbeam to the statue of King Ramses II, and the statues of “Amon and Ra-Hor.” And Petah, “which was sanctified by the ancient Egyptian, as the sun penetrates the halls of the Temple of Ramses II, which rises 60 meters in length inside the Holy of Holies.”
Despite the repercussions of the Corona pandemic, and the suspension of many celebrations and festivals on various occasions, this unique phenomenon remains a global astronomical event that attracts everyone’s attention.
In this context, Ashraf Attia, the Governor of Aswan, gave his directives to provide all facilities to organize folklore performances for the folklore groups of the General Authority for Cultural Palaces, in various palaces and cultural sites, to present their various reviews during the period from February 18 to February 21, with the participation of 12 folklore groups.
