A deputy from the Italian Five Stars movement called on the government to provide additional information regarding recent trips by Senator Matteo Renzi to Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
This came in the text of a letter sent by Representative Stefania Ascari on Friday to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers regarding the trips of Renzi, who headed the government between 2014 and 2016, to Saudi Arabia and the Emirates, including those that came in recent weeks, during which he attended a conference on innovation. He received from him 80 thousand euros.
Askari called for introducing legislative initiatives with the aim of regulating non-parliamentary activities for each member of the Senate and Deputy, similar to Article 3 of the European Parliament Members Conduct Act on Conflicts of Interest to prevent possible positions of this type of parliamentarians with other parties, including foreign countries, with the aim of protecting Important national strategic assets.
She wondered whether these recent trips made by Renzi come under the reasons for work, study, health, or absolute necessity, which allow travel abroad under anti-Corona virus legislation, given that the UAE is among the countries to which travel is prohibited.
